This is a new request with a different desired result CreecregofLife (talk) 22:21, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
I don’t see any vandalism and the target page is ECP. I’m not seeing a case for reducing protection of the redirect to SP. --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 01:44, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
In which case the redirect should be unprotected. There is just simply no reason for this redirect to be fully protected. ‑‑Neveselbert (talk · contribs · email) 02:41, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
It was protection due to reasons that you cannot see ([1]). Couretsy ping @NawlinWiki: (CC) Tbhotch 02:47, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
Neveselbert, the case you put forward doesn’t hold up - Vandalism? Consistent with the target article? Nor can you see the BLP violation, now deleted, that necessitated the protection. --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 02:58, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
I did notify NawlinWiki, but they appear to be inactive. I waited a day before requesting unprotection here, which was declined and archived before I had the chance to respond. So I've since requested a reduction in the protection level, to SP which would be consistent with the level for the redirect's target. I don't believe the rationale for locking the page still holds up, since the subject of the redirect has since died, voiding any possible further violation. ‑‑Neveselbert (talk · contribs · email) 03:23, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
The target page is ECP not SP. If only you were clear in your initial request - you asked for SP due to persistent vandalism, consistent with the target page. Why don’t you start again and ask for a lowering of protection to ECP without any mention of vandalism? It won’t be lowered further than that because the page falls under arbitration enforcement as it can be reasonably construed as belonging to the Arab–Israeli conflict. Malcolmxl5 (talk) 04:11, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
Sorry of course, I've struck out the mention of vandalism and I apologise for not being clear in my initial request (I did mean ECP, not SP, sorry again for the confusion). ‑‑Neveselbert (talk · contribs · email) 04:27, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
Of course it could be lowered to ECP, but why? Is there an urgent need to do so, an article to be written? Or is the intent just to synchronize the protection levels? Lectonar (talk) 08:26, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
An argument against "synchronizing" the protection levels is that the article currently has 690 watchers while the redirect has 3. Undesirable changes to the redirect by an EC user are thus much more likely to go undiscovered. Favonian (talk) 09:12, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
I don't think this is a particularly controversial redirect, like Hitler for example. The vast majority of redirects in Redirects from sort names are not protected, let alone fully protected, like this. ‑‑Neveselbert (talk · contribs · email) 20:23, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
You still haven't answered the basic question: why? Why does it need to be unprotected? Are you planning on turning into an article that differs from it's current target? Jauerbackdude?/dude. 20:38, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
I originally wanted it unprotected to tag the redirect, which has since been done by an admin. It's still however tagged as a fully-protected redirect, which I think is unnecessary for the reasons I've given. ‑‑Neveselbert (talk · contribs · email) 20:51, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
I'm not sure how this page got protected at all. The protection log says it was protected because of persistent vandalism. There have only been 3 edits to the page, and none of them were vandalism. As far as I know, if the target of a redirect is getting vandalized, that doesn't justify protection of its redirects. My vote would be to unprotect it altogether until there is evidence that it is actually a target for vandalism. —ScottyWong— 16:04, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
The explanation may be found in the deleted revision log. Someone moved the article (when that was still possible) to an unpleasant/derivative name involving the words "War Criminal", and a bot obligingly fixed the double redirect. Then it got deleted, recreated with the proper target and protected. As there's no need for changing the current redirect that cannot be handled with an edit request, I prefer keeping it fully protected. Favonian (talk) 16:27, 21 March 2022 (UTC)

New page reviewer[edit]

User:Akevsharma[edit]

Hello, I would like to continue to create and curate the encyclopedia and feel confident that I am ready to accept additional responsibility. I am applying for page reviewer rights after learning the proper procedure in not only editing and creating articles, but also converting them. I have created articles and never had them deleted, and I thoroughly understand the standards in review. I hope to identify drafts suitable for the mainspace and help the community reduce the number. Good day! I am applying for this permission because I think I can execute the responsibility of a new page reviewer. I have experience in rollbacks and I enjoy reverting vandalism, but I also want to learn other sides of Wikipedia. New pages reviewer seems interesting to me as it is a side of Wikipedia that I have rarely seen. I have read the guidelines and according to my own opinion, I am able to do the task as outlined. I have been blocked once for WP:3RR violation more than 6 months ago, and I have promised that I would be more careful in that regard. Thank you very much and have a great day to y'all. Requests for page mover

Page mover[edit]

User:Super Dromaeosaurus[edit]

In December 2021, I was temporarily given this permission for three months by Primefac [2]. As I stated there, I wanted this permission simply for editing more comfortably, and it has indeed been quite useful for me. I believe all the moves I've done over the last three months have been rightful, an exception being a certain one but that was the result of a disagreement (read about it here). Thus, I am asking for being granted this permission again, this time indefinitely. Super Ψ Dro 19:06, 11 February 2022 (UTC)

I am actually leaning towards declining, mainly based on the moves performed in early January - vitriolic edit summaries for one, but moves that didn't strictly require the suppression of a redirect for a second reason (the older titles seem to be reasonable alternate names, spellings, or just uncontroversial redirect titles). Will leave this for someone else to comment on. Primefac (talk) 12:15, 17 February 2022 (UTC)
I can justify those. With "vitriolic edit summaries" in early January I assume you mean this one. If we look at the article's history, we can see a relatively new user completely blank a page [3]. The edits were reverted by another user, but the move that the user performed without an edit summary was reverted by me. The fact that they blanked the page and that they moved the page like that prompted me to call their edits as vandalism. And, I mean, were they not? And there's also a CSM Târgu Mureș (women's basketball) page, so the new title that this user chose, "CSM Târgu Mureș (basketball)", was ambiguous. I don't see any problem with this case.
In January I also deleted this redirect. The article was titled by a user that has shown several problems in my opinion. I've left them many comments so far in their talk page and I had to waste time in nominating to AfD several of their articles (such as Armenian dialects in Romania or List of Romanian settlements in Kazakhstan). The dialect is simply not a language, so the title was wrong, and I didn't feel like explaining once again something to this user, although I probably should have.
I also deleted in January this one. I've checked some more and apparently "L'Aïnsa" is the Catalan name of the village. I restored the redirect, and take the fault with that one.
Finally, in early January, I deleted these [4] [5]. I wrote a long justification on the move that I did on the renamed article's talk page [6], in which I mentioned that the reason that I deleted the redirects were because they were ambiguous. "Vlach" in Bulgaria stands for Romanians (we got an article for them now) or Aromanians (they also have their page), so there was just no need for it. I explain more on the message left there.
I honestly think my actions when using this permission have been a net positive, except for the L'Aïnsa case, which I've rectified, and for the other case that I mentioned at my original comment here. Now, I can understand there might be some concerns, as I've acted on my own in several cases, and I probably should have followed the standard practices in some of them. However, I still believe that all the suppressions I did except those two were justified. I can act more carefully from now on, and be more respectful of processes like WP:RFD. Super Ψ Dro 15:08, 18 February 2022 (UTC)
I'll comment here, given the general paucity of administrators willing to deal with extendedmover. It is a higher-trust permission for good reason, and suppressredirect should only be used in limited circumstances. And while I believe that all of the moves were carried out with good intentions, I fear that they were carried out on a more simple "do I think a redirect is useful here?" basis rather than a policy-based line of reasoning. Maybe this is just process/policy wonkery on my part, but I think it's something worth thinking about for the reviewing administrator, who will have to weigh these concerns against the applicant's promise to act more carefully. ( Peanut gallery comment) Sdrqaz (talk) 15:53, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

User:Styyx[edit]

My previous request was declined a few months ago because I didn't have 3000 edits. What I said there still counts. I've been patrolling new pages and draftifying some for a while now. I'm a global rollbacker, which already grants me suppressredirect. The problem when I draftify an article with the MoveToDraft script which I used until November, is that the script recognizes my global rights and moves without a redirect (breach of the global rights policy, I know), but since I don't have local rights, it immediately creates an empty page under the original title with CSD R2 tag (when there is no redirect). This obviously causes some confusion among deleting admins, and I was even told to "do something else" until I get PM. Since doing nothing wouldn't get me this right granted, I've continued to draftify by hand, which is quite inconvenient as it doesn't automatically notify the creator, nor does it do the regular clean up needed. Also see Special:PermaLink/1072169313#Weird problem with the script and User talk:Styyx/Archives/2021#Page mover and R2. ~StyyxTalk? ^-^ 22:04, 18 February 2022 (UTC)

I am involved in New Page Patrol and AfC; the ability to move pages to the draftspace without leaving a mainspace redirect has been helpful. I believe that my history of page moves while using the tool shows that I can use the tool appropriately and I am seeking to permanently obtain the right. — Mhawk10 (talk) 18:40, 26 February 2022 (UTC) — Mhawk10 (talk) 18:40, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

Noting that consensus is to keep such redirects. My two cents is that if consensus is against deleting such redirects then they should not be suppressed. Am I wrong? casualdejekyll 18:18, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
Mhawk10 is referring to redirects from mainspace to the draftspace, not the other way around. DanCherek (talk) 18:22, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
Ah. Cheeky. (And by that I mean I should get more sleep before editing Wikipedia, hah) casualdejekyll 00:21, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
Just to clarify, I am aware that Draftspace redirects to the mainspace should not be speedy deleted. The reason I am requesting this is that I’d prefer not to leave a redirect for someone else to clean up when I move things from the mainspace to the draftspace. I’ve patrolled ~1200 pages in the past year, so this situation does not only come up infrequently. — Mhawk10 (talk) 16:27, 18 March 2022 (UTC)

I review reports at CopyPatrol where the bot sometimes flags cut-and-paste moves. When I come one of those and the move otherwise seems valid, I revert the edits and then post at WP:RM/TR so a page mover can carry out the intended move. This happened earlier today at Direct Factory Outlet: edit → revert → RM/TR → move. I'm requesting the page mover right because it would be convenient if I was able to fix these myself. I monitor Category:Wikipedia files requiring renaming & Duplicate file names and rename files when they meet WP:FMV/W. suppressredirect would be useful for limited use files for WP:PMRC#10 so that I don't leave unused redirects. Terasail[✉️] 04:36, 17 March 2022 (UTC)

Pending changes reviewer[edit]

User:Hamza Ali Shah[edit]

Hi! I would like to become a pending changes reviewer. I have been on Wikipedia for 4 years now and I feel that I am now experienced with handling vandalism and that I can be trusted with these permissions. This will also help reduce the backlog. Thanks,  Hamza Ali Shah  Talk 20:33, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

User:Casualdejekyll[edit]

Hi! I do a bit of vandal reverting and stuff. I have read the guidelines and as far as I can tell the only requirements for getting the permission are having a clue about how to use it and wanting it, correct? Honestly don't know whether or not I'll be accepted but I'll have you know I'm a big fan of backlog emptying (I have a good chunk of edits that are dealing with edit requests for example) so this will be another backlog for me to chip at occasionally. ~~~~ casualdejekyll 18:30, 17 March 2022 (UTC)

User:BastianMAT[edit]

Hello, I would like to become a pending changes reviewer. I have been on Wikipedia for over 2 years now and have dealt with active vandalism on several pages. I have read the guidelines and will use this constructively and effectively if given. I’m happy to contribute to pending changes and reduce the backlog when Pending changes backlog is high. Thank you, BastianMAT (talk) 12:54, 19 March 2022 (UTC)

User:Pavlov2[edit]

Hi, I'm Pavlov2, a rollback from Chinese wikipedia and a long-term antivandalism across different wikis. I also patrolled a lot in enwiki to fight against vandalism. I'd like to get the right of rollback to use Huggle if permitted. Many thanks. Pavlov2 (talk) 14:19, 20 March 2022 (UTC)

User:Usernogood[edit]

I can use permission to use rollback for vandalism? I’ve edited 207 in mainspace of 368 edits. Can this enough? Thank you Usernogood (talk) 19:01, 20 March 2022 (UTC)

Not done You had a previous request denied not two days ago - please wait a while before re-requesting. firefly ( t · c ) 19:06, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
Furthermore, was this a good idea, really? firefly ( t · c ) 19:07, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
Why? Usernogood (talk) 19:08, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
Because it looks an awful lot like an attempt to conceal the fact that you had a previous request denied (which, for the record, wouldn't work - not only does a bot post messages logging that sort of thing, but admins will check anyway). firefly ( t · c ) 19:10, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
Fine. I will re-request next month (April 20, 2022 at 19:01) if other administrators denied. Usernogood (talk) 19:45, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
When someone says re-request next month or week, they don’t mean at the exact time of the exact day, they mean around that time. Zippybonzo (talk) 08:21, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
OK I understand. I will re-request this on April 30, 2022 or May 1, 2022 Usernogood (talk) 11:39, 21 March 2022 (UTC)

User:AirshipJungleman29[edit]

Hi. I'd like to gain access to rollback rights so I can use Huggle. Many thanks. AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 11:30, 21 March 2022 (UTC)

( Peanut gallery comment) no anti-vandalism track record, last undo was on the 15th of March, you don’t need the tool realistically. Zippybonzo (talk) 14:18, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
(Non-administrator comment) Also, whenever you revert disruptive edits, please do warn those users. Kpddg (talk contribs) 14:26, 21 March 2022 (UTC)

"Do you want to take a survey?"[edit]

On Feb. 12, 2005, I did a random pages survey. Out of 100 random pages, only 1 was a U.S. town. That's progress. Three towns in the UK, 1 in Spain and 1 in Portugal also turned up. Overall biographies were the largest category at 22%, followed by geography with 15% total. Then Lists at 7%, Disambiguation pages at 6%.

On Feb. 24, 2006, I repeated the 100 random page survey, this time getting 5 U.S. towns. Overall, geography had 26%, biography 21%, fiction 9%, music 4%, colleges 4%, lists 3% and disambigs 4%. Clearly geography and biography are our largest areas. Music, science and business scored less than I expected. Non-individual History was hardly discernable.

Even by Feb. 2005, 100 out of almost 500,000 was not statistically significant but was as much as I had patience for.

Short To Do list[edit]

Early Anon work, no need to bug the developers[edit]

Up to Dec 16, 2003, all the edits at these anonymous id's were mine (59 edits):

More recently 1,250 or so edits on 75.41.110.200 are apparently all mine. Apparently my new ID is 75.41.109.190. There are undoubtedly many others as the earliest history of many articles was not preserved by the software.
