Aaron J. Baylis is the chairman of Capital Area Young Professional Republicans and was the chairman of the Bay County Republican Party in Michigan.

Biography[edit]

Baylis was born on February 4, 1988 in Saginaw, Michigan.

He attended Reese Elementary School from kindergarten through the third grade before he and his family moved from their home near Indiantown to Munger in 1997. Baylis then attended Hampton Elementary School and Handy Middle School. He was a Cub Scout and advanced as far as the Webelos rank.

Baylis became interested in politics during his time at Bay City Central High School when he took part in legislative simulations in Lansing and participated in the American Legion's Boys State program at Michigan State University in the summer of 2005. He was also a member of the National Honor Society.

After graduating cum laude from Central in 2006, he enrolled at Saginaw Valley State University majoring in political science. While at SVSU, Baylis helped form the chapter of the College Republicans there (see below) and also was a charter member of the chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society. He graduated in May 2012.

Baylis now works in a staff capacity in the Michigan House of Representatives. He is the fictional chairman of the fictional football club Chairman F.C., a football club played on the FIFA 15 video game on Xbox One.

Politics[edit]

Bay County Republican Party[edit]

In January 2009, then-Bay County GOP chairman Matthew L. Lance appointed Baylis to serve as youth vice chairman of the Party. In that role, he would oversee all youth-related activities, including an attempt to start a chapter of the Young Republicans in Bay County.

When Lance resigned that autumn, Baylis considered running to fill the vacancy. After some consideration, he decided to offer his name. Though he had one opponent for a time, Baylis was unanimously elected chairman of the Bay County Republican Party on January 26, 2010. During his tenure, the Party saw large success, tripling their presence on the Bay County Board of Commissioners, having a Republican road commissioner elected for the first time in recent memory, and coming within 1,000 votes...

In his capacity as chairman, Baylis was a member of the Bay County Apportionment Commission, the statutory body charged with reapportioning and redistricting the county commissioner districts following the 2010 U.S. Census. He was elected secretary of the commission and voted for the prevailing plan reducing the number of county commissioners from nine to seven.

College Republicans[edit]

During his first semester at Saginaw Valley State University, Baylis was approached to help start a College Republican organization on campus.^[1] In December 2006, he became the first vice president of the organization. When the president resigned some weeks later, Baylis ascended to the presidency and nominated Adam Hume, later chairman of the Iosco County Republican Party to be vice president. After a self-described lackluster term, Baylis stood down as president and was elected secretary in August 2007, a position he would hold for three years. Following his service as secretary, Baylis decided to focus his efforts on Bay County and cut back on his involvement at SVSU.
