Welcome to WikiProject TRIZ Ontology.

About this WikiProject[edit]

The goal of the project is creation of TRIZ Ontology. Such ontology will help

- to clarify terms and definitions of TRIZ, as well as discover and correct mistakes in the definitions separate terms from their synonyms

- extract subsets of TRIZ concepts where the concepts are interrelated

- clarify clusters of TRIZ knowledge based on the subsets of TRIZ concepts defined

- separate terms which relate to TRIZ knowledge clusters from operational terms.

Why Ontology[edit]

TRIZ Ontology belongs to a category of so-called “domain ontologies”, or, in other words, ontologies of knowledge domains. Rather than just explaining meaning of concepts of a knowledge domain by means of describing different terms and their definitions, similarly as it is done, for example, in glossaries, a domain ontology introduces semantic relations between its terms which indicate how a particular concept relates to other concepts of the knowledge domain.

TRIZ Ontology will 1) Increase quality of learning and understanding TRIZ, reduce number of mistakes and invalid interpretations of TRIZ

2) Increase quality and transparency of evaluating knowledge and skills with TRIZ

3) Ease a process of adding new concepts of TRIZ emerging during development of knowledge areas

4) Develop TRIZ by increasing its quantitative forecasting power

5) Facilitate integration of TRIZ with other areas of knowledge.

Terms[edit]

The existing glossaries of TRIZ have been used as basis of developing TRIZ Ontology. Based on the TRIZ glossaries, a list of TRIZ terms (concepts) of TRIZ Ontology has been developed. Selection of the terms is being done by using the following specific criteria: 1) A term belongs to the area of TRIZ knowledge (e.g. “technical contradiction”, “su-field”) or a term is widely used in TRIZ (e.g. “technical system”, “function of a technical system”) 2) A term is not a synonym of some other term (e.g. “ele-field” has a broader meaning than “su-field” since it allows intangible objects to be used in addition to substances). 3) In definition of a term, other terms of TRIZ are used. The list of Terms in TRIZ Ontology may be updated during the development of the project after clarifying the terms and discussing them by the community. The project participants can propose to exclude one or another term from the List of Terms of TRIZ Ontology. The list of Terms in TRIZ Ontology is managed by the project moderators.
