  • Reason: Tenmei was banned for one year here in 2011. I was Tenmei. When that year period ended, it seemed prudent to retire the name. It was a good guess that the name had become a red-flag which distracted from the process of constructive contributions. Yesterday this reasonable hypothesis was proved wrong at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ryūkyū Province‎ when Bueller 007 wrote, "Your obstinacy in the face of evidence has not changed since your editing ban." I did not respond to this. Then Bueller 007 wrote, "Back to his old tricks that got him banned, Tenmei Ansei is being fundamentally dishonest in citing his sources." Again, I did not respond directly.

    The words "fundamentally dishonest" are a personal attack. The undermining words are not explained by the context, and my restraint is unlikely to discourage more of the same. In fact, Bueller 007's outside-the-box tactics caused Jun Kayama to mirror it here. This zero sum bullying strategy poisons the opportunity for good work ... and that was the point, wasn't it? My response to this personal attack and bullying is to take up the name Tenmei again. In 2008, a leading voice in WikiProjectJapan advised "In order to accomplish anything here, you're going to have to learn to work with people who may not be immediately or apparently amiable, or who may be outright caustic in all their dealings with everyone." Tenmei has a history of lessons learned the hard way, but nothing about Tenmei was ever called "fundamentally dishonest".

    If I don't do this, Bueller's de-legitimizing gambit will play out again. My thinking is explained at User:Tenmei/Delegitimisation as a tactic. In response to Bueller's innuendo, can you see how the process of changing my username to Tenmei serves as a kind of legitimizing defense? See also Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple#Ansei → Tenmei. That edit suggests that you have not understood the point I made above. It is not possible to merge the contribution of Tenmei with those of Ansei. If I rename Ansei to Tenmei, then I must rename Tenmei to something else, such as Tenmei (old) (talk · contribs). Is that what you want to do? Alternatively, you could just: (1) resume editing as Tenmei; (2) redirect User:Ansei and User talk: Ansei to User:Tenmei and User talk:Tenmei; and (3) add a note to User:Tenmei noting that for the period X to Y, you edited as Ansei. The "Shoemaker" doppelganger of "ShoeMaker" would only be used for testing Scripts and templates as the ShoeMaker account currently is for. I've most recently been testing Writ Keeper's orangeBar.js with the extra account. It would also be useful to have the SUL for this account for other script testing like for the WP:AFCH script I've been working on improving. The SUL for this account would make it easy to do testing for which I could use an extra user with different user rights on Test.Wikipedia where I am an administrator for testing improvements to the AFCH script. Other than script testing purposes, this account would not be used for any purposes. Thank you for your time. I consider my ShoeMaker account a "higher than average" for impersonation and vandalization due to my high profile in the DDO world. May I have this username as a bot account for making automated edits with my WP:AWB privileges? My last fix took me four days to accomplish because I had to sit there and watch it go through 3K pages. I always make sure to test all cases with my ReGex and after the first couple hundred pages with no problems, I would like to be able to set AWB in bot mode and let it run to complete the fixes. I had to open a new account because I forgot my password, and when I first registered I apparently did not include my email, so I couldn't set a new password.       • Here's the thing: per our current local policy, this request would probably need to be declined.         • This is a borderline case compared to what I've been dealing with so far since SUL Finalisation was announced. If the requesting user had a local account with edits, I would be minded to allow the request - better to deal with such this now before finalisation, as after finalisation (without local renaming ability) it is likely to be more complicated to "merge in accounts". So if we can get all one user's accounts under one name, before finalisation happens, that seems to be in everyone's best interests. That said, in a couple of cases, I've had to rename inactive accounts that had significant contributions, which is sad. I have tended to leave personal messages apologising and offering a rename in those cases.
          In this case, there are no local contributions for the requesting name. Also the requesting user has not made many more edits to zhwiki than the enwiki user. However, even were the enwiki user to become active again and make more edits than the zhwiki, the position would not (as I understand it) change; the global account has now created and belongs to the zhwiki user who will gain the use of the name on all projects as part of finalisation. The only question really is whether we make that happen earlier by actioning this request now, instead of letting it happen automatically when SUL finalisation occurs. I doubt it matters much the enwiki user. On balance, I'd edge towards performing the request, as it will presumably make the zhwiki user happy and is unlikely to make things worse for the enwiki user.
