Yes, "IULAW" is a reference to the article that I am editing, and in fact I do have a connection with the school. However, I can assure you that my edits will be minor, and I will "take great care not to edit in a manner that may be perceived as controversial, promotional or agenda-driven" in compliance COI guidelines.

The COI page says that editors with a "close connection with a subject are recommended to disclose this." I am an alumnus of IU Law, and my choice of the user name "IULAW" (and now "IULawAlum") was specifically meant to disclose that I have a relationship with the subject.

The above in mind, would you please set "IULawAlum" as my username?

Actually, my primary objective is to guard against incorrect information from being added to pages related to IU Law, and so I plan to restrict my edits pretty much to such entries and will edit nothing else. But again, my reason for requesting the "IULawAlum" user name is to disclose my relationship with the school. I don't mean to be confrontational about this, but wouldn't it be better that, under the circumstances, I use a name such as "IULawAlum" rather than edit with a more anonymous name or an IP address?

Nichalp, have you read the COI guidelines? They specifically state that "some editors declare an interest in a particular topic area. They do this in various ways..." How do you suggest that I declare my interest? The COI guidelines also explain that "defending interests" is among the editing activities permitted for those who are closely associated with a subject. Are you suggesting that I don't have the right to defend, in a neutral and unbiased manner, the interest of the institution of which I am an alumnus?

Yes I know about COI. As long as what you publish about your institution follows wikipedia policy, no one can really take action against you.
