When you unified your account, you automatically had "User:A Cool Editor" reserved as your name on all Wikimedia projects. A local rename will result in the detachment of your new name from your old name. This is only an issue if you are active on other Wikimedia projects (Commons, Meta, etc), and you can unify again if you're renamed locally.
