  • It has been done before although the proposed policy had not been formally adopted - for example User:Rebecca [1]. I am not willing entirely to suspend good faith as to why the username was created after my request to change had been logged. I note at Commons, where incidentally my user name has been changed, they apply the policy differently - see Commons:Changing username/Archive1#Bradipus (usurp Username). My request would meet all elements of the proposed policy. That is I am an established user, there are no edits from the account at all. They have not specified a valid email address [2]. Moreover, it is quite possible that the account was created in bad faith - my change was logged 23.13 on 31 August UTC, the new account created 18:29, 1 September 2006 (AEST which I think = 8:29, 1 September 2006) - after my request, also after say this personal attack [3] by a user who is subject to an ongoing RFC with recent behaviour documented on the RFC talk page.
The proposed policy has been under discussion for many many months. When, as asked by others on the talk page, will its status change? What is holding it up?

I believe that "Mr. Eddie Willers" suffers from the same problem as the previous selections: it is too close to existing accounts, and we must steer clear of possible misunderstandings due to username similarities. Perhaps you could consider a more "radical" variation of your original selection, something that would be distinctive enough to prevent mistaken identity incidents in the future. As for suggestions, since equilibrium is a common word, I wouldn't see any problem with using it as part of a username, provided it is a little more distinct from the existing user. From what you wrote, I understand that you already have another account from which you are editing, and that would mean that you want this account renamed because it gives away too much about you, is that right? Looking at it, I don't see how this would be too revealing of anything, especially since it has an extremely short contribution history. I would say that it would suffice for you to just have the account's user page redirect to the userpage of your active account, or maybe ask an Administrator to have it blocked indefinitely. If you really want an account named "Mgb1719", you could just create that account and start editing from there. But consider that a) If you already have another account, consider using it instead of creating new ones, so that you can establish a fix identity for yourself on Wikipedia; b) Notice that there are already many users with usernames that read those three letters followed by a number, which can cause confusion for other users. A unique username would be better. If you are indeed concerned about the name "Andreas08", perhaps you could explain it better, so that we can determine if a rename would indeed be essential. Strange! I do not recall ever registering under Brendel. Yet I you state there is a User:Brendel who, according to my research has no contributions and whose talks as well as userpage redirects to me. I tried logging in as Brendel, but was told that there is no e-mail address on file for that user. Could me moving my userpage have caused this?
