MOS:DIGITS advises that Digits should be grouped and separated either by commas or by narrow gaps (never a period/full point). Unfortunately, thousands of editors disagree. Here are 987 articles beginning with A containing ".000" where not obviously part of a fraction. Some are false positives such as non-English quotes (Hans gewinnt 10.000 €) and non-obvious fractions (BigCo made $10.000 million); most are errors. This is not a request for the Herculean task of checking and fixing approximately 25,000 articles, but does anyone have any bright ideas? I've already done a JWB run which fixed a few hundred Euro sums (€12.345,67 → €12,345.67) but I now see a wider issue. Certes (talk) 13:42, 2 June 2020 (UTC)

I actually loaded that list beginning with "A", and found all sorts of interesting things, not all of them immediately obvious. For example, AC Milan has a whole table of financial history, and it lists everything in millions of dollars, with three decimal places. The numbers all look like mistaken thousands separators, but they aren't. I honestly would look to WP:BOTREQ to see about changing instances of #.###.### or #.###,# outside of a ref to #,###,### or #,###.# as a start. You could do that in AWB with a good regexp, except it's going to be a HUGE task, and it will keep needing to happen - pretty much the definition of a bot task candidate. Also, I'm wondering if a bot could check the rest of the page to see if the preferred style is #,### or # ###. Is there a template for MOSDIGIT issues? VanIsaac_WS^cont 06:29, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

The page History of the world has recently been moved to Human history. I would like to change all the links from History of the world to Human history. However, because this affects a large amount of pages, see Special:WhatLinksHere/History_of_the_world, I am asking for some help with this task. Example: [1]. @Interstellarity: Is the plan to move something different to History of the world, or to change the redirect there in any way? Otherwise, why do the links need to be changed if the page is already redirecting? Happy to do this if there's a particular reason to, but it ought to have a reason so to do. @Jonteemil: Actual fact, question - wouldn't it be better for a bot to do this? This is going to be an ongoing task, by the looks of things, so an occasional AWB run might help, but there'll still be new content uploaded that fits those criteria, and doesn't get tagged. In all redirects from Category:Middle-earth redirects to sections where the categorisation is made through [[Category:Middle-earth redirects to sections]], replace that with the template {{R ME to section}}. There currently exist infoboxes on bodies of water articles which conflate names in different languages by using <br> in the |name = parameter. If someone could help by giving the parameter a scan to identify which article infoboxes use <br> the name field corrected and could provide a list it would be helpful for WP:LAKES cleanup of old Infobox lakes to Infobox Body of Water transition. It could be possible in the detection of the <br> the names could be split if one of the strings matched the page title to remain while the other side be moved to |other_name=, but a list of <br> affected would be a start to understand the scale of the issue. I'm not sure if this is possible, and hopefully not too WP:BOLD. I've got access to AWB, but this task is a bit beyond me at the moment.

This is in two parts:

1. Is it possible to go through all the articles in all the sub-categories of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Women_scientists (looks like over 600 sub-categories) to list which ones aren't tagged with either {{WikiProject Women scientists}} or {{WPWS}} on the corresponding talk page?

2. Ideally, to then be able to add the {{WikiProject Women scientists}} tag in an appropriate place (i.e. not simply at the top or bottom) on the talk pages. Doesn't matter about setting any of the parameters of the tag.

Just to help with context, in Indian film articles, we often get translations for film titles prefaced incorrectly with "English", when we don't need to be told that obvious English is English. The preference is to indicate that it is a translation, (vs. an official English title) and the content should be formatted in sentence case, not as a title, per MOS:CT. And obviously, I would be monitoring any weird scenarios where a wikilink might not work if it were changed to sentence case.

If you are using PCRE, you could try something like:

\((?:English|\[\[English language\|English\]\]): *('*)(.)(.*?)\1\) → ({{Translation|1=$2\L$3}})

The 1= guards against = signs within the text, but | or other odd characters can break things. Changing uppercase to lowercase can break wikilinks and proper nouns. With some effort we could probably maintain case within wikilinks; proper nouns are harder. Hope that helps, Certes (talk) 20:11, 25 July 2020 (UTC)

@Kailash29792: I had AWB do a simple find/replace for "English:" to "transl.", which works OK, but as you'll notice, it didn't get the other formatting errors, i.e. the bold, and the incorrect case. In those cases, regex is the real champ. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:09, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

My fault. The dialect of regular expression language I'm used to, PCRE, accepts \L to convert text to lower case. I can't find an exact definition of what AWB accepts but I think it's Microsoft's own dialect which doesn't implement \L or any equivalent that I can find. So my suggestion just unhelpfully inserts the text "\L". There may be an AWB plug-in to achieve what you want, or a more experienced AWB user may be able to chip in with an alternative. To handle all of the above, I would probably use:

With the exception of some lookahead/behind issues, I find Rubular is a good tool for proofing regex to be used with AWB (at least as far as the capturing goes). The working for this code is at this link. Primefac (talk) 13:36, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

Well done: I've used subst:ucfirst to good effect elsewhere but forgot about it. The one downside is that the effect is only visible in the preview, not the amended wikitext, so a translation with a missing capital such as "Return to india" is harder to detect and fix. @Kailash29792: I haven't started. Here what I would do: Set up a basic find/replace for [[English language|English]] changing it to English (because everybody who speaks English already knows what English is, and there's really no justification for this to ever be linked in the articles we edit most.) Then, in your find/replace settings, on the line with the regex formula, tick the box that says "After fixes". This will run the regex after the other fixes have been performed. Hope that helps. Unless I'm mistaken, the regex I gave above should catch any instance of "English" (linked or not). Also, if you were going to do a "simpler" find/replace for just "English", I would replace [[English language|English]] before fixing anything else. Originally posted this in the AWB requests for permission, but it's been a few days and I'm not even too sure I'd be able to do it myself if I'm granted permission. I've found a bug in Template:WikiProject Indigenous peoples of North America such that some articles tagged as part of WikiProject Indigenous peoples of North America/Anishinaabe are done so in a way that prevents importance ratings from appearing in the banner on their Talk pages. The issue is that they are tagged with {{NorthAmNative/Anishinaabe|...}} when they should be more appropriately tagged {{NorthAmNative|...|anishinaabe=yes}}. Hello! Currently, articles about curlers use a combination of {{Sports links}}, {{WCT}}, {{WCF}}, and {{CurlingZone}} for external links, but they can all be simplified to just {{Sports links}}. Would it be possible to go through all articles that use {{WCT}}, {{WCF}}, and/or {{CurlingZone}}, remove those templates from the external links section (but not other article sections), and add {{Sports links}}, if it's not already there? Yes, there is a consensus to replace these: WT:CURLING#Bot to change worldcurl.com URLs to curlingzone.com. User:A202985 has started working on it using AWB, though I suppose a bot might be a better solution — I can put out a request if that's what we think. With about 3k transclusions between the three templates, I certainly know I wouldn't want to do it manually with AWB. That being said, they're all designed as external link templates (not refs) so a fairly simple lookbehind would eliminate the chances of it being used as a ref and improperly removed. Hey, I'm trying to empty Category:Television articles using incorrect infobox and need help with a conversion of {{Infobox television}} instances to {{Infobox reality competition season}} (which is a module in {{Infobox television season}}). @Gonnym: There is a whole lot going on in those example edits - tons of parameters are being deleted, some being added, and all of them are being shuffled around. Your request addresses absolutely none of those changes, so can you please explain exactly what you want to happen, show an example edit of exactly that thing happening, and most importantly give a list of exactly which articles in that category it needs to be applied to. Hello. The above domain was previous for a football club, but it has been taken over by a company selling generators. Various articles point to this site for info about football players, so it has been recommended that the parameter |url-status=usurped be added to these references to prevent readers accidentally going to the wrong site.

Therefore, is someone able to work some AWB magic please to add the parameter to the 356 articles listed here? [7] I'm hoping that you clever folks can work out a way that does not require some poor soul to click on something 356 times!

Hi, I'm looking for someone to run AWB to update the 50 or so articles linked by Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Long_plot. The update should ideally

1. Perform a word count on the article section tagged by Template:Long plot.
2. Modify the section after the template (with no line break) with an invisible comment that lists the reminder (if it is missing) <!-- Word count should be 400-700 per [[WP:FILMPLOT]] -->
3. Add another invisible comment (with no line break) that updates the word count and the date, for example <!-- Word count: 774 as of 31 August 2020 -->

I somewhat agree with Debresser and their edit summary, mainly due to the inherent instruction creep. The template points to WP:PLOTSUM, which is an essay, though I do note our guidelines at MOS:PLOT and WP:FILMPLOT concur. However, if there is a template at the top of the page indicating the plot is too long, then there is no need for a commented-out notice that will likely be ignored by everyone anyway. It's likely better to use the WhatLinksHere (and/or the related category) to trim plots that are too long. Primefac (talk) 23:43, 1 September 2020 (UTC)

Just for your own elucidation: editors who work on film articles and put them through the article improvement process pipeline (B/GA/FA), need the plot section to meet both MOS:FILMS and the relevant B-Clas/GAC/FAC. As a result, this information is both necessary and required. The template does not link to the relevant guideline, nor does it provide a word count that would allow editors to see the problem and justify removing the tag. All the arguments in this thread fail to address the problem and simply ignore it. For example, how is an editor supposed to know why the section is tagged with a long plot tag without a word count? And the word count only matters due to the article improvement criteria. This is very simple to understand. Please consider this thread closed, since I don't find this discussion helpful nor informative. It's one thing to fail to understand the problem, it's yet another to purposefully ignore it. Doing a word count is not a problem. Just like you are supposed to be familiar with the laws of whatever country you live in (and in case of transgression saying "I didn't know that was not allowed" will not help you), likewise editors here are supposed to be familiar with WP:MOSFILM. You can see on pages that link to Bloch's theorem, there are many articles that refer to Bloch's theorem with a reference of "Bloch wave". This is due to the unfortunate long-standing title of the article being "Bloch wave". The term "Bloch wave" lacks all semblance of notability, a survey of the literature returns zero references to the term. Terms that are used in textbooks include "Bloch's theorem" for the overall topic, and "Bloch function", "Bloch wavefunction", "Bloch form", and "Bloch state" to refer to the state. The term "Bloch electron", referring specifically to an electron, is also widely used. Talk page discussions Talk:Bloch's theorem#Definition of "Bloch wave" and Talk:Bloch's theorem#Requested move 28 August 2020 contain the background information on the change between the two titles, of which there were no objections, there you will find references to the literature making these points. Hi, I was wondering whether there was a plugin or other method that could easily do the following. On my wiki, I have a series of articles, all of which contain an infobox template with an "opened = X" parameter. "X" is always either a date of the form "September 3, YYYY" or simply "YYYY", or it's blank. I would like to append a category link to the end of each article, of the form "[[Category:Places opened in YYYY]]", taking the value from the "opened = " parameter, unless that parameter is blank, in which case it should skip the article. I suppose a solution could either parse the date and extract the "YYYY" year from it, or simply take the last four numerical characters of the line (I wouldn't know which of these is easier to accomplish using AWB). I would suggest modifying the infobox template to use the "opened" parameter to populate your Places opened in year categories. You can either leave it like that, so the category automatically updates any time the opened parameter changes, or if you don't want to have that code permanently, you can then run AWB to explicitly add the category to each page just on the basis of it already being included. Just use a template/module to extract the year from the parameter, and dump it into the category call. Something as simple as [[Category:Places opened in{{last word|{{{opened|}}}}}]] should work for basic operation. It would get more complex if you want to deal with two-digit and four-digit years, different date formats, etc. but that would be the basic idea. VanIsaac_WS^cont 19:45, 3 September 2020 (UTC)

Do to an apparent security problem, the part of the <score> element that allows the score to be played through MIDI is currently disabled, and it seems is likely to be so for quite a while. See Help talk:Score#Error message. The display feature is still working; however, if the score is set to allow MIDI, it will display an error message instead of showing the score, so that attribute needs to be commented out, like this, in order for the score to be visible. There are a little over 1000 pages that use this element: they are listed at Special:PagesWithProp/score. Would it be possible using AWB to go through those pages and replace "vorbis" with "%vorbis%" and "vorbis=1" with "%vorbis=1%"? And then if this gets fixed perhaps it could be run in reverse? To judge by Help:Score, we could replace <score vorbis="1" foo="bar"> by {{score|vorbis=1|foo=bar}} which discards any vorbis parameter (because Comments in the markup start with a percentage sign % and end at the end of the line) and copies the rest of the verbiage into a <score> tag. Then vorbis can be re-enabled when possible just by having the template treat it like any other parameter. I've tried that idea here but can't get it to work. Sansoni (publisher) is an old and important Italian publisher, whose page was recently created.

There are hundreds of pages with Cite book templates for works published by Sansoni.

It would be useful to link them to the publisher page.

So my proposal is that a bot should look for instances of {{Cite book }} where there is one of these parameters:

|publisher=G. C. Sansoni
|publisher=G.C. Sansoni
|publisher=Sansoni

And replace it respectively with:

I discovered this from an edit on my watchlist to Balgo, Western Australia which I fixed, but There are about 387 more of these. They are generated by the National Library of Australia automatic citation generator, which has several bugs like this (that are not easy to fix on their end); there's absolutely no reason for the second "Australia". Most transclusions of {{Infobox NRHP}} include a |Governing body= parameter because it was included in the output of a popular infobox generator for many years. It's a cosmetic change, so of course please don't start a big run of deleting this parameter from pages, but could the task list for genfixes (or whatever it is that makes code look pretty) be expanded so that AWB will remove this parameter from an article whenever someone's running AWB on a page? Ok to improve this: look for |route= and change instances of the LTR link as above; and in the same articles look for "is on the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway line" [in the lead] and change to "is on the London, Tilbury and Southend line" – if that's of course not too much for AWB. I was checking the list of full protected pages in the project space here. I noticed that most of them do not have protection templates. There are several hundred pages in the list but Category:Wikipedia fully-protected project pages has only 107 pages. For most cases, the template {{pp|small=yes}} should be sufficient. I'd like a bot to go through all the members of Category:NA-Class Wisconsin articles ( 10 ) and remove the hardcoded |class=na and just leave the |class= blank. Most of these would be sorted automatically into the appropriate categories if the "na" were removed. In subcategories of Category:Districts of Japan, there are very many stub articles which have content of the same form for the population density and area. For example, Katsuura District, Tokushima says the district has an estimated [[population density|density]] of 6,326 and a density of 35.3 persons per km². The total area is 179.46 km². At the least, the ² character should be replaced by <sup>2</sup>. Also, the phrase "density of 6,325" is better as {{convert|6,325|PD/km2}} (giving "6,325 inhabitants per square kilometre (16,380/sq mi)") and the area as {{convert|179.46|km2|abbr=on}} (giving "179.46 km² (69.29 sq mi)"). (It appears {{convert}} understands thousands separators so there's no need to remove them.)

Please revert recent page moves in Special:Contributions/Utkarsh555, moving Foo– India relations or India– Foo relations back to the original title (Foo–India relations or India–Foo relations, whichever puts the nations in alphabetical order) as I did for Pakistan. Note removal of space after the en dash. For a bonus point, fix the lead (example; may require knowledge of local languages) and incoming links (or just leave them to the bot). WikiProject Poultry was taken under the wing of WikiProject Birds and is now Poultry task force. In the process, Chicdat redirected {{WikiProject Poultry}} to {{WikiProject Birds}}. This resulted in two main problems. First, many PTF articles now have two WP Bird templates on their talk page. Second, all the parameters such as image requests from the original WP Poultry template are now ignored/lost.

I realize that repopulating Category:Wikipedia requested images of poultry ( 1 ) as opposed to Category:Wikipedia requested images of birds ( 4,782 ) may need some template work that it a little beyond me, but maybe someone can take a look at that as well. Also the quality cats such as Category: C-Class Poultry articles have also been depopulated.

Basically though, i would like a bot to check all talk pages that use {{WikiProject Poultry}} to check for an instance of {{WikiProject Birds}}. If so they need to enable |Poultry task force=yes in the latter. If the poultry template had either |needs-image=yes or |needs-photo=yes then these need to be imported into the birds template.

I have access but don't know how to use the regex features. I'd like for someone to convert all U.S. county presidential election results from wikitable markup (such as at Rockland County, New York) into template form using {{PresHead}}, {{PresRow}}, and {{PresFoot}} (such as at Cook County, Illinois). Consensus exists for this change so it is not a "controversial" change that is prohibited by AWB rules. There is currently a Reward Board entry for this task, and anyone who does it will be given an appropriate barnstar.
