Request for review in GA nomination for Seberang Perai[edit]

Hey there Goldsztajn I saw your username on the GA mentor list & I'm wondering if you're keen to review the GA nomination for Seberang Perai? Do let me know. Thanks a bunch! hundenvonPG (talk) 12:51, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Selamat pagi/ni hao @HundenvonPenang! Interesting, I actually made many visits to that part of the world in my studies and early career ... My name on the mentor list is more about providing advice for submission, rather than reviewing. I'm committed to other work at the moment on Wikipedia, but ping me again in early March, if the review is not taken up by then and I'll have look. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 00:27, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting! Sure thing. Will ping you if the review isn't taken up by then. hundenvonPG (talk) 15:25, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Goldsztajn Hope this finds you well. Just checking in if you're still keen on reviewing? Thanks in advance! hundenvonPG (talk) 01:23, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@HundenvonPenang sorry for the delayed reply; I'll be able to have a look next weekend. No promises at this point to take it, but will come back to you. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 11:23, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from SarahHunnings24 on User:SarahHunnings24 (17:17, 21 February 2024)[edit]

If I publish this as a draft can the public see it. --SarahHunnings24 (talk) 17:18, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @SarahHunnings24 - you have placed the text on your user page, which is where editors provide descriptions of their interests or themselves. It is not where drafts go, however, if you go to this location: Wikipedia:Drafts#Creating_and_editing_drafts you can type in the title and that will create the draft in the correct location. You should then copy the text across to the new location. A couple of important notes: are you connected to this company in anyway? Please be aware of Wikipedia's guidelines on conflict of interest and paid editing. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 19:43, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How do I get a draft live? --SarahHunnings24 (talk) 20:31, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @SarahHunnings24 - I've added a template to the draft that allows you to submit it for review. Please be aware that any conflicts of interest whatsoever need to be decalared - if you have any ties (eg financial, personal, familial) to this company they should be declared. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 02:16, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Goldsztajn,

I think you should revert your NAC closure of this AFD. Opinion on whether to keep this article was divided so that's pretty far from a SNOW close which implies unanimous opinion to Keep or Delete. Non-admin closers should not be closing AFDs that are close calls. Please consider this request. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 23:37, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Liz - as a "NAC-er" I've made it a principle that I will revert any good faith request to revert a closure, even if I disagree. This is clearly made in good faith and I'll revert. Nevertheless, I don't really see how this is a close call; there's no difference of opinion on the basis of our guidelines. There's overwhelming community consensus that members of national parliaments enjoy presumed notability. SNOW closes don't imply unanimity of opinion (that would be speedy keep), they imply the process is only going to produce a particular result. Question from SarahHunnings24 on User talk:SarahHunnings24 (14:49, 6 March 2024)[edit]

Hello, I have now declared a conflict of interest and wanted to double check it was correct. Also, how do I remove the tag to say that it has been done? --SarahHunnings24 (talk) 14:49, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @SarahHunnings24 - the tag on the article should not be removed until the article itself has been reviewed by another editor; the article has a large amount of primary and self-published materials which do not contribute towards notability. The article needs further editing supported by secondary, independent reliable sources. Have a read of WP:ORG which elaborates the criteria for Wikipedia articles on companies. GA review review request[edit]

Hi, I am doing my first GA review, would you mind taking a look? Thanks in advance! Tosatur (talk) 13:27, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Tosatur - I've left some comments at the review. One general comment I would make - it's important when doing a review to look beyond the article's text - this is not so much about verification, which is a very important thing, but it is about making an assessment of what the sources say in general and how well that matches to what is in the article. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 22:48, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Tosatur - you might find this useful: Talk:Sumitro Djojohadikusumo/GA1 - this was a GA reivew I did previously, where the article started out lacking neutrality and with editing was able to achieve GA status. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 23:13, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from DaveCHare (03:27, 8 March 2024)[edit]

Hi, How do I know/check the status of a draft I have submitted? (for "Raymond Allen Hare") It was rejected once, I responded to the criticism/s in an updated draft, and then resubmitted. D --DaveCHare (talk) 03:27, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @DaveCHare - it goes back into the queue, but I'll take a look at it. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 03:28, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@DaveCHare - you removed the templates that indicate the draft needs to be reviewed, I've readded them. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 03:34, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Thank you. I appreciate you helping.
D DaveCHare (talk) 03:37, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @DaveCHare - I left a comment on the draft - some suggested changes regarding the referencing, remember please don't delete the material at the top of the article (this will be removed once/if the article is approved). I assume this is a relation of yours, no need to confirm to me, but if so, just acknowledging you've done this the right way to avoid a conflict of interest ... thank you! RFA2024 update: no longer accepting new proposals in phase I[edit]

Hey there! This is to let you know that phase I of the 2024 requests for adminship (RfA) review is now no longer accepting new proposals. Lots of proposals remain open for discussion, and the current round of review looks to be on a good track towards making significant progress towards improving RfA's structure and environment. I'd like to give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has given us their idea for change to make RfA better, and the same to everyone who has given the necessary feedback to improve those ideas. The following proposals remain open for discussion:

  • Proposal 2, initiated by HouseBlaster, provides for the addition of a text box at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship reminding all editors of our policies and enforcement mechanisms around decorum.
  • Proposals 3 and 3b, initiated by Barkeep49 and Usedtobecool, respectively, provide for trials of discussion-only periods at RfA. The first would add three extra discussion-only days to the beginning, while the second would convert the first two days to discussion-only.
  • Proposal 5, initiated by SilkTork, provides for a trial of RfAs without threaded discussion in the voting sections.
  • Proposals 6c and 6d, initiated by BilledMammal, provide for allowing users to be selected as provisional admins for a limited time through various concrete selection criteria and smaller-scale vetting.
  • Proposal 7, initiated by Lee Vilenski, provides for the "General discussion" section being broken up with section headings.
  • Proposal 9b, initiated by Reaper Eternal, provides for the requirement that allegations of policy violation be substantiated with appropriate links to where the alleged misconduct occured.
  • Proposals 12c, 21, and 21b, initiated by City of Silver, Ritchie333, and HouseBlaster, respectively, provide for reducing the discretionary zone, which currently extends from 65% to 75%. The first would reduce it 65%–70%, the second would reduce it to 50%–66%, and the third would reduce it to 60%–70%.
  • Proposal 13, initiated by Novem Lingaue, provides for periodic, privately balloted admin elections.
  • Proposal 14, initiated by Kusma, provides for the creation of some minimum suffrage requirements to cast a vote.
  • Proposals 16 and 16c, initiated by Thebiguglyalien and Soni, respectively, provide for community-based admin desysop procedures. 16 would desysop where consensus is established in favor at the administrators' noticeboard; 16c would allow a petition to force reconfirmation.
  • Proposal 16e, initiated by BilledMammal, would extend the recall procedures of 16 to bureaucrats.
  • Proposal 17, initiated by SchroCat, provides for "on-call" admins and 'crats to monitor RfAs for decorum.
  • Proposal 18, initiated by theleekycauldron, provides for lowering the RfB target from 85% to 75%.
  • Proposal 24, initiated by SportingFlyer, provides for a more robust alternate version of the optional candidate poll.
  • Proposal 25, initiated by Femke, provides for the requirement that nominees be extended-confirmed in addition to their nominators.
  • Proposal 27, initiated by WereSpielChequers, provides for the creation of a training course for admin hopefuls, as well as periodic retraining to keep admins from drifting out of sync with community norms.
  • Proposal 28, initiated by HouseBlaster, tightens restrictions on multi-part questions.

To read proposals that were closed as unsuccessful, please see Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review/Phase I/Closed proposals. You are cordially invited once again to participate in the open discussions; when phase I ends, phase II will review the outcomes of trial proposals and refine the implementation details of other proposals. Another notification will be sent out when this phase begins, likely with the first successful close of a major proposal. Happy editing! theleekycauldron (talk • she/her), via:

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Rhodesia-independence-stamp-1965.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Rhodesia-independence-stamp-1965.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Vanjagenije (talk) 23:13, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024[edit]

Hello Goldsztajn,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

Question from Malpasram (16:36, 5 April 2024)[edit]

How do I create a wiki page? --Malpasram (talk) 16:36, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Malpasram - what is it that you wish to create? Do you mean you wish to create an article about something? Usually it is best to start by editing articles to get a feel for how things work, but if you tell me what you wish to create I can give you some advice on whether your idea is possible. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 09:33, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Phiaso (08:29, 6 April 2024)[edit]

Hello Goldsztajn! I'm just starting out, and had a clarifying question about minor edits. In the event that the article needs minor restructuring (re-ordering of paragraphs without removal of information), would this be counted as a minor edit? I wasn't confident enough from reading through the page, so I didn't mark the edit I am referring to as minor out of an abundance of caution. Thanks! --Phiaso (talk) 08:29, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Phiaso - welcome and happy to answer your questions. A minor edit is anything which more or less a reader will not notice. So re-ordering paragraphs would not count as a minor edit. However, a spelling correction, or an punctuation change (without changing meaning) would count as a minor edit. Hope that helps, feel free to ask me anything else. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 09:36, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from ExoField (12:14, 18 April 2024)[edit]

Hi, I'm in need of some help. In University of Peshawar there was probably a purge to remove all the departments and colleges (because it was copy pasta from the official website) from the page and now the page is all messed up and completely wrong, someone has listed the departments with a secondary source, but it's completely wrong, what do I do? I want to discuss this in detail please. --ExoField (talk) 12:14, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

By "what do I do" I mean, should I just remove the departments entirely (page will be completely empty) or should I add back some of the departments with a primary source? ExoField (talk) 12:15, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I'm having difficulty finding secondary sources that mention the various departments/colleges/faculty of the university reliably, they're either completely unrelated, or just straight up wrong.
I'll appreciate any guidance. ExoField (talk) 12:17, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @ExoField - I'm somewhat inactive this week, so replies are delayed. For the purposes of Wikipedia, have a look at the Harvard University article to get a sense of a structure for a university article. In terms of sourcing, it's ok to use a primary source where the information is "factual", but consider that a list of faculties in the article is not necessarily encyclopedic.
