New page reviewer granted

Hi Paradise Chronicle. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at WP:PERM in case your user right is time limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. signed, Rosguill talk 22:05, 27 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Patrol newsletter October 2022

Hello Paradise Chronicle,

Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.

Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.

Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.

NPP backlog May – October 15, 2022

Suggestions:

  • There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
  • Reminder: an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more. (from the NPP tutorial)
  • Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles. Other clean-up tasks that don't require advanced permissions can be left to other editors that routinely improve articles in these ways (creating Talk Pages, specifying projects and ratings, adding categories, etc.) Let's rely on others when it makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you enjoy doing these tasks while reviewing and it keeps you engaged with NPP (or are guiding a newcomer), then by all means continue.
  • This user script puts a link to the feed in your top toolbar.

Backlog:

Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!

Reminders
  • Newsletter feedback - please take this short poll about the newsletter.
  • If you're interested in instant messaging and chat rooms, please join us on the New Page Patrol Discord, where you can ask for help and live chat with other patrollers.
  • Please add the project discussion page to your watchlist.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be a reviewer, please ask any admin to remove you from the group. If you want the tools back again, just ask at PERM.
  • To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Early end of the backlog drive

A few days ago, new page patrollers got the backlog to zero. Due to the unprecedented success of the backlog drive, it will be ending early—at the end of 24 October, or in approximately two hours.

Barnstars will be awarded as soon as the coords can tally the results. Streak awards will be allocated based on the first three weeks of the drive, with the last three days being counted as part of week three.

Great work everyone! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:50, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for reviewing the article. I'm confused by your rating. Comparing it with the examples cited here, it seems as if it ought to be rated at least a B-class or even higher. Everything is sourced and cited properly, there is no OR; the article goes into depth about the work’s creation and premiere, as well as its historical background, which explains why it was composed, and reception. There are also a number of images that illustrate figures crucial in the work’s creation and reception. Aside from providing the oratorio's text with translation and descriptions of each movement with musical examples (which I do not know how to make), I am not sure how else this article could be improved.

I would very much appreciate your insight here. If you could tell me what else this article is lacking, that would also be welcome. Thank you again. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 14:48, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@CurryTime7-24 Please do not see this as a something personal, I hardly ever rate an article for a B as I normally guess there is more info on the subject. Feel free to upgrade it if you like. Until B one can decide for oneself. The article is really in good shape and your comment is also rather confident. I suggest you review it once more by yourself, fix the eventual typos etc. send it to the WP:GOCE and then nominate it for a Good Article/GA.

Olympics AFDs

Hi Paradise Chronicle!

Thanks for much for addressing some of the many Olympic stubs on Wikipedia by starting deletion discussions. Did you know that many of these articles can be boldly redirected by you without the need for a deletion discussion?

When a non-notable Olympian only competed in one event, you can simply redirect their page to that event. It's easy and saves time for everyone, just follow the instructions in Wikipedia:Redirect.

If an Olympian competed in multiple events, AFD or PROD is suitable.

Thanks! MarchOfTheGreyhounds (talk) 18:59, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks you for the heads up. Where is the discussion where this was agreed on? I didn't see anything that this can be done with Olympics at WP:Redirect. Also, what about if one competed in multiple (100m 200m, 400m) events but only one Olympic Games? Paradise Chronicle (talk) 01:57, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Redirecting articles is a commonly accepted alternative to deletion. You can redirect anything that lacks notability to a page where the subject is mentioned. Someone may revert and start a discussion, but in my experience this rarely happens with minor Olympians.
There's no policy saying you have to redirect instead of sending to AfD. I mention it because the four Lugnuts Olympic stubs you nominated for deletion in the past week are heading for redirects as opposed to outright deletion.
If an Olympian was at multiple events at one Olympic games, there may be another appropriate redirect target. For example, if a Brazilian Olympian competed in multiple athletics disciplines at the 2020 Olympics, you could redirect to Brazil at the 2020 Summer Olympics#Athletics.
But if there's no good redirect target, or lots of options with no clear standouts, an AfD or PROD would likely be suitable. Thanks! MarchOfTheGreyhounds (talk) 09:59, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How did you assess Albert Rakoto Ratsimamanga as a C

@Paradise Chronicle I am a little bit surprised and disappointed by your review for Albert Rakoto Ratsimamanga. I wonder how did you reach this conclusion. The article is easily a B. if you can please elaborate on what is need for the article to become a B that will help ..FuzzyMagma (talk) 19:42, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I am not so much familiar with the subject See B 2. and the rater just shows us more or less where it is about standing. I seldomly or almost never rate an article a B. But if you feel it is a B and almost nothing is missing, you can rate it yourself. Up to a B, we can all rate it as we want. Only if it goes to GAN an article gets seriously reviewed. Paradise Chronicle (talk) 19:58, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Paradise Chronicle I wrote the article so it’s not fair to grade my own work. But let me know if there something I can do to persuade you to rate the article as B FuzzyMagma (talk) 20:33, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, you have a B and I agree it is a B. I now went over the article again and if you want, you can even try to take it to a GA. For this I suggest you once more go through the whole article. Remove the little things you might have overseen. For example I know MOS:OL, and there I was wondering why you wikilink countries like France. There might be reason I don't know, but I wouldn't. Then the copy edit with the Ashkenazi Jews you probably noticed as well. You could also compare the awards and honors section with the ones of other articles and see what you like more. Paradise Chronicle (talk) 06:54, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks .. never thought of a GA but why not FuzzyMagma (talk) 07:45, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
FuzzyMagma I saw this edit of yours and wanted to explain why I rate articles. Often articles have been added to projects but were not rated for years. Or articles have been rated years ago and the rating was not reassessed. I mainly rate articles so they do not appear as unrated or as a stub in a chart like this of category like this. If then the project which is ideally supposed to come across the (new) articles (like it happens with new articles in Women in Red) disagrees with my assessment, they can still re-assess the articleParadise Chronicle (talk) 10:13, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

fair judgment

Hi there, i noticed your edit at new article Downtown Paris Historic District which I started, and I don't recognize your name. I happen to create and develop articles mostly on places listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Your adding {{over-quotation}} tag there is fine and appropriate, given the state of the article, I wanted to say. I'm glad you are on board... keep up your good work. cheers, --Doncram (talk, contribs) 07:08, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

High there, thank you for the interesting article. I must say I believe the article has quite a potential, but you have added many quotations for most of the buildings described. How about smoothening it out (by applying a copy edit) in wikivoice? Paradise Chronicle (talk) 22:12, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

DYK nomination

Dear Paradise Chronicle, thank you for your comments and edits with regards to the DYK nomination for the Geneva official chestnut tree article. I've created several incoming links, so that I could remove the orphaned template in the article. However, I'm not sure what you mean by "We sort of expect that most of the phrase are sourced to qualify for DYK". Do you mean that some part of the hook is not sourced in the indicated link (if yes, which one ? to me, it looks like everything is covered). Or that other sentences in the article itself should be sourced, too ? (I'm aware of this last fact; I have plenty of sources available, but very few in English unfortunately). Thank you in advance for your help ! (and, yes, I will have a look into archiving my talk page; thanks for the headsup ! Schutz (talk) Schutz (talk) 21:32, 11 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I am just answering from own experience. It is not enough to have the hook sourced. From me it is expected that each paragraph within the article ends with a rock solid source as can be seen here. And once I was also asked to source the first phrase of a paragraph. Since, I try to make sure each phrase is sourced, this counts when being the editor of the article nominated for DYK and also as a reviewer of an article nominated for DYK. This guide is much less demanding and maybe you also come through with it, but I wouldn't comment below nor approve your DYK in the present state.Paradise Chronicle (talk) 22:08, 11 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks for the detailed answer, I understand better. Yes, I had indeed read carefully the guide you mention. In any case, I will continue working on the article in the next few days, including adding sources (as I mentioned, there are plenty, even though they are almost only in French -- which is better than nothing, of course). All the best, Schutz (talk) 23:20, 11 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Johann Georg Seidenbusch

Thanks for the review and the useful points you added to Johann Georg Seidenbusch. I had to change one word, as Floß is raft, and indeed the Isar was only navigable by raft. That must have been quite a remarkable journey from Munich! Moonraker (talk) 13:22, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting unsourced content

Hi. Please refrain from deleting unsourced content without searching for sources yourself, as you did here. Either search for sources and then add them or delete content if none can be found, or add the 'citation needed' tag. Somuchknowledge (talk) 01:10, 22 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your concern. Feel free to re-add it. I have just read several lists of laws directed against women by the Taliban, but didn't find those. I found a law that did prohibit to portray all human beings but not specifically only women. And I didn't find anything on first floor when searching with control+f in several better articles, so I removed it.Paradise Chronicle (talk) 01:41, 22 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Awards for expanding stubs

Hey. I saw your recent RfC proposal that we "award the expanders of articles (stubs) with the notifications that usually only the creator receives". I like it. What do you think about expanding it to also propose that expanding stubs counts as creation for awards like WP:FOUR? Enterprisey (talk!) 02:43, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
