UnityPoint Meriter Hospital is a nonprofit hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, United States. It is operated by UnityPoint Health. It primarily serves southern Wisconsin and northwestern Illinois. It serves as a teaching hospital for the University of Wisconsin–Madison.[2] The joint operating agreement (JOA) between UnityPoint Health – Meriter and UW Health formalized and expanded their collaboration in care for patients.[3]

History[edit]

It was founded in 1927 as Madison General Hospital. The hospital merged with Madison Methodist Hospital in 1987. The merger created Meriter Health Services. Meriter merged with UnityPoint Health in 2013 to form UnityPoint Meriter.[4] The Meriter hospital governing board allows it some autonomy.[5]

Facilities[edit]

The hospital has 448 beds, making it the state's fifth largest.

The Madison Japanese Language School (マディソン日本語補習校 Madison Nihongo Hoshūkō), a Japanese weekend supplementary school that holds classes at the hospital's McConnel Hall.[6]

Physicians Plus, a regional health insurer, is owned by Meriter.[7]
