Dev Pragad is the British-American president and CEO of Newsweek. He is also co-owner of Newsweek acquiring a half-interest in 2018.[1] Under his tenure Newsweek returned to profitability and reaches 100 million readers a month.[2]

Personal life and Education[edit]

Pragad is an American citizen who holds dual citizenship with the United Kingdom. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Prince’s Trust, a charity founded by King Charles III, and is a fellow of King's College London and attended Harvard Business School in 2022. He earned B.Eng and PhD in electrical engineering from King's College London, where he attended from 2002 to 2008.[3][4][5]

Prior to becoming CEO of Newsweek, Pragad managed its international edition from London in 2014.[6]

In 2018 Newsweek was spun off into a standalone company Newsweek Publishing LLC from IBT Media with Pragad and Johnathan Davis each owning 50% of that company.[7][8][9]

Pragad was the subject of Harvard Business School case study published in 2021.[10] The case study focuses on the Newsweek's digital transformation through the use of data collection and performance measurements to grow the publications readers and revenue. Pragad is credited with turning around Newsweek into a profitable business.[11] By 2022, the media outlet was profitable and had a 20% to 30% growth for the year, and 100 million readers per month.[12]

In April 2024, Newsweek magazine published a cover story on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, following an interview conducted by Newsweek along with global editor in chief Nancy Cooper at Narendra Modi’s residence in New Delhi.[13]

Pragad launched the industry-leading[14][15][16][17] Newsweek Rankings, which has become the fastest-growing part of the business.[18] The rankings include the coveted[19][20] World’s Best Hospitals, Auto Disruptor Awards, and other corporate and employer rankings.[21]
