Bot reqs

Date conversions

A bot is needed, to convert existing "date", "first broadcast", "foundation", "founded", "opened", "released" or similar dates in infoboxes to use Start date, so that they are emitted as part of the included hAudio, hCard or hCalendar microformats.

Dates before the year 1583 AD (or after 9999) should not be converted. Only Gregorian Calendar dates should be converted. Previous discussion has included suggestions that templates with dates always after 1923 (e.g. templates for records, CDs, television, space travel, etc.) should be processed first due to some editors' concerns about changeover dates from Julian to Gregorian calendars in a few territories. Later passes should account for regional differences (e.g. nothing in Greece pre 1920 without manual checking or further discussion).

It should be possible to sub-divide this into smaller tasks, to simplify the conversion logic and allow more than one bot operator to be involved.

Watch out for redirects, too.

Smackbot was approved to do this, but failed to complete the task.

This applies to pages using these templates:

Always Gregorian

Infoboxes

Multiple instances per page

Misc

Unlikely to include non-Gregroian

(But proceed with caution; especially in late-converting territories)

Probably includes some non-Gregorian

plus other event templates listed at Category:Templates generating hCalendars (with a couple of exceptions) and similarly, many non-biographical members of Category:Templates generating hCards.

Boilerplate

Conversion to date templates
A great many infoboxes already emit microformats, and have for months, or even years. However, in some articles, these are incomplete, because the dates which form part of them do not use an appropriate sub-template, in order to emit the date in the correct metadata format. A bot (or bots - this task could be subdivided) is required, to complete the task of converting opening-, release-, first shown-, incident- and such dates from plain text to use Start date, as seen in this example edit for a year, and this one for a full date and as described in the various infoboxes' documentation. Note that start date allows for YYYY, YYYY-MM, YYYY-MM-DD and in a few cases YYY-M-DD:HH:MM formats. Note that Smackbot was approved to do this, and started, but failed to complete the task. A list of affected templates is available.

Microformat categories

If a template (or its documentation) is using one of the following {{UF-* templates, add a category to the template:

 • UF-hcard-person - {{if {coordinates}| | }}
 • UF-hcard-geo - {{if {coordinates}| | }}
 • UF-hcard-org - {{if {coordinates}| | }}
 • UF-geo -
 • UF-geo-other -
 • UF-hcal -
 • UF-hcal-auto -
 • UF-hcal-geo - {{if {coordinates}| | }}
 • UF-hcal-multi -

To add:

(replacing {coordinates} with {latitude} or some other suitable parameter)

Standardisation
