Description Photo post-card by V. Derounian, 1930, of an elderly inhabitant of a Beehive village in Aleppo's district in northern Syria, sipping the traditional bitter murra Arabic coffee and smoking a cigarette. His over-coat is lined with wool, and serves as a mattress and a blanket (sleeping bag) when traveling, and known locally as furwa, and hence the western word of "fur". The black Kaffiya on his head conserves the heat from the sun in the cold climate of the north.

This work was created in Syria and is now in the public domain there because its term of copyright has expired pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 12/2001, Syria's first ever copyright law (details).   • Article 25 - "Photographic, fine arts or plastic arts shall be enforceable for ten years as of the date of producing such work."
